GET DOWN OC

GD June21 Final web

One of our favorite party nights, GET DOWN OC!, has made a triumphant return after a year long hiatus. This week (TONIGHT in fact) is the 2nd installment of the re-energized party night, and we’re so excited!

From 2010-2011 GET DOWN OC was one of the premier party nights in Downtown Santa Ana, rivaling the might and prowess of the Crosby (one of SoCal’s most known club nights). When it got shut down last fall, it was a terrible blow to all of us who looked forward to getting faced on thursday nights. Not to mention, the lineups & special guests always crushed – to say the least it was a crushing blow to social events in the OC area.

This week features a stellar local DJ lineup, but the party maestro, Mikey Jazzwell, has so many epic guests up his sleeve that this new iteration of GET DOWN OC will certainly be the most epic to date.

We’ve also been blessed with the opportunity to Art Direct for GET DOWN OC. From flyers, to the website & branding, we will be crafting a visual identity to match the meditation like stillness, amidst a sweaty mess, that is GET DOWN OC.

So grab your dancing shoes, and come join us! Every Thursday night from 9-2! And trust us when we say that this is NOT a party to be missed.

TAVIK: Visionaries Return

TAVIK Clothing and Humble Giants have had a great working relationship over the last 3 years; as the creative team behind the TAVIK brand, we’ve designed soft goods, tee graphics, advertising creative, catalog layout, and more recently, a beautiful line video & stoic photo shoot.

Our work with TAVIK shines a light on what we do best: translating a brands vision across different mediums and languages. Whether we’re designing a new set of tees, or creating advertising, or concepting new initiatives, our focus has always been on telling TAVIK’s story, in TAVIKs language. Through grueling work deadlines to creative breakthroughs, we’ve forged a consistent voice for TAVIK that is helping them reap rewards in the ever-growing, and changing, clothing industry.

Silverton – POW Wedding

What’s been happening during our hiatus? We’ll have to see if Daniel the Giant decides to share his adventures following his return… For now we’d like to share with you a little trip we took to Silverton, Colorado. We’ve been to all kinds of mountains and resorts, but Silverton is unique. The mountain is guided only during most of the year, and offers visitors endless pow runs and pillow lines. This is a TRUE mountain experience. Much thanks goes out to our friends Erin and Alex, who staged a wedding in order to give us all an excuse to escape!

The Art of Fli… WHOA.

Every now and then a video comes out that completely redefines action sports videos. A few years ago, Yeah, Right! did this for skateboarding videos. By taking everything to the next level (both in filming, editing, locations and skating), Yeah, Right! raised skateboarding to a higher plane than just “Those damn skateboarders!”.

And now, in 2011, a new video came out that attempts to do the same for snowboarding. The Art of Flight is a next-level adventure that dares you to forget it. From the website:

A new breed of action sports film comes to life as Red Bull Media House, in association with Brain Farm Digital Cinema, present “The Art of FLIGHT,” a Curt Morgan film. Equal parts action and adventure mix with the inevitable drama encountered along the way. Two years in the making, “The Art of FLIGHT” gives iconic snowboarder Travis Rice and friends the opportunity to redefine what is possible in the mountains. Experience the highs, as new tricks are landed and new zones opened, alongside the lows, where avalanches, accidents and wrong-turns strike. For the first time, viewers are immersed in the sometimes successful, often trying quest to open up new, unexplored mountains in remote corners of the world.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. But I probably could have said it shorter by saying: “holy crap that looks amazing!”.

Life Beyond Living

The portrait of the CHAPTER man sits comfortably between the mischievous musings of Hunter S. Thompson and the raucous scenes depicted in Miguel Calderon paintings. Our lives are lived beyond the beaten path punctuated by the little details found in abandoned places, dive bars, record shops, the open road and the occasional swimming hole.

A couple weeks back we had the distinct pleasure of heading out to Pasadena for some rock diving with the wonderful ladies & (mostly) gents of the newly formed Chapter. With such a motley crew, we knew some great moments were bound to happen. We stayed close to the camera to make sure we captured it all.

Since then, the tireless team at Chapter put together our (and others’) photos and turned it all into a video for the world to experience. Check out the video, and more photos, below at the Chapter site. Nothing More Beyond.

CicLaVia October Event

They’ve finally released the route for the next massive CicLaVia, and boy does it look exciting. The last CicLaVia earlier this year, in April, was a really great experience. Seeing hundreds of people out on the streets, riding bikes, skateboarding, roller skating, etc… all on massive Los Angeles streets, was very inspiring. It was almost like a glimpse into the future past of our culture.

I’m immensely excited to take part of the next CicLaVia, and you should be too. Even if you’re not a bike nut, come on down, roll over, walk over. The experience of everyone moving together, laughing, playing together – the humanity of it all. It’s an overwhelming and awesome experience.

Come this October, you’ll find the Humble Giants out enjoying and documenting CicLaVia. Come have some fun with us.

Wibit Water Sports

Just stumbled on these really awesome products by Wibit Sports. Their awesomely inflatable play courses look like they’d be tons of fun for children, teens and adults alike. Their slogan “How Much Fun Can You Handle?” seems pretty appropriate. I don’t know that I could handle as much fun as the people in these photos are having.
